Modern Marks Fabric and a Giveaway!

Welcome to the Sew In love Fabrics Blog Hop! My name is Vicki Holloway and I made a really great quilt using Benartex fabrics. It is the Modern Marks fabric collection by Christa Watson. This is her debut as a designer and I must congratulate her on this accomplishment!

I chose to make a quilt named “Gridwork” from Christa’s book, ” Piece and Quilt with Precuts”,  pictured above. The pattern is a fun, modern, playful pattern that has lots of room for free motion quilting, which is what I love!

This fabric is amazing. It has such gorgeous saturated color. It has a wonderful hand and the quality of the fabric cannot be accurately captured in a photo or word description. It really is a dream to sew with and quilt.

Some of the blocks are shaping up and I am having so much fun arranging them! I have lots of options for color combos and I don’t lose all those incredible geometric shapes as I make the blocks!

I chose an all over curl and a mini switchback for the free motion machine quilting. I did sharp stippling in the little squares. LOOOVE the texture and you can see that the fabrics don’t lose their pattern or intensity of color when I quilted it up!

Fresh off the frame in this photo. I have to say I love this wool/cotton batting by Hobbs and the Superior Sew Fine thread in a grey color . It is all coming together! I am so happy with how the fabric worked up and it has enough breathing space in it to do a ton of quilting without losing any of the detail of the design. And the patterns in the fabric collection are all over patterns— so when you cut it up for blocks it isn’t directional, a must for me—check that out in the picture above!

We had one last perfect day of sun for a trip to the public garden for a few photos!!!

Slide show of the Glamor shots on that day of perfect lighting and nature’s grandeur!

  1. Love your quilt and your quilting is so much fun. I am trying to let myself go and do more freedom quilting. As I said to my quilt group on my current quilting, I am consistently inconsistent. But that’s OK. Things are getting done.

  2. Vicki, I have so enjoyed following your progress this past year. And, Christa’s fabric, oh my, that is the most beautiful stuff I’ve seen in a while.
