Saturday Morning Coffee

I woke up today in complete shock that tomorrow is Oct 1. I saw the full moon streaming into the window yesterday as I got my coffee and thought wow that came really quickly. So quickly. September was spent being sick and recovering from being sick so it flew by. The full work weeks are getting easier but by Friday nights I am exhausted and last night was no exception. I realized I consumed a lot of content this week and spent way too much time thinking , and much of it was about the trends I am seeing in content. One trend is why so many men think about the Roman Empire so much and the other trend that Taylor Swift is dating Travis Kelce.

I am all in on the romance. I am a former hopeless romantic that over time have become more practical due to…. life. I will watch this with the romantic in me hoping that they have a long lasting relationship. She was having a great time sitting next to his Mom watching the game and he had the famous “in love” gaze looking back at her from the sideline. Enough to melt my heart. I happen to be a big football fan so I know Travis Kelce, his talent, his superbowl rings, his brother also plays in the NFL and that he has a podcast with his brother. They are funny on TikTok in short bursts, so I laughed a lot watching their clips. Taylor Swift- I know some of her songs and that she is an amazing woman running her business, writes great and popular songs and has the hottest concert tickets of the decade. I love it and will watch from afar hoping for the best.

The next is the weird rabbit hole to fall into. The Roman Empire. Being married to a history buff I have consumed nearly all content available on the internet with my husband about Rome. I did ask him and he thinks about the Roman empire many times a week. But why are so many men thinking about the Roman Empire so often? I wish I had that kind of time honestly. I mean I think about quilting a little, getting coffee a lot, craft making some, my to do lists, work, cooking dinner, what my kids are doing, how my family is doing, if the laundry is done, checking my social to what is happening in the world, my fantasy football team but I don’t have loads of other things taking up brain space. When I ponder things it’s usually about deep issues like health, aging, dreams, vacations, saving money and societal things. The Roman Empire comes up when consuming content like on archeology shows but not in day to day thinking or conversation. I found this article and it was quite enlightening. However, I do think about true crime a lot as a potential contender for the female version of this question! And that is another topic to do a deep dive on.

I have no plans this weekend. My husband is out of town as the Highland Game season draws to a close for his competing, next weekend he is judging. I am having a much needed rest and no plans to get much done. I am looking forward to it.

  1. My hubby seemingly has no interest in history. I’ve never seen him read about anything historical or even want to watch a historical movie. And yet he says he thinks about the Roman Empire a couple times a month! What is up with that? I’m with you – my thoughts are usually more immediate and family related. I’m glad you’re feeling better so you can enjoy the fall. I’m getting ready for our Thanksgiving – next weekend!
