It has been a lovely spring week with rain that has given the world a gentle soak and then some lovely sunshine. The garden is really starting to grow. I hear the birds singing all day and they are nesting. New life is cycle is beginning and it’s feels like it has finally arrived and we are past snowfall. I hope frost, too.

With the growth of plants has brought the growth of weeds. So a little weeding has started and my annual attempt at digging out grass from the flower beds. I have more weeding to do before I plant some sunflowers and wildflowers in the back of my beds. I am also planning to thin out some of the overgrown perennials. The jobs will take me weeks and then I will watch the magic happen in the garden. I have only a few fairy garden pieces that are fresh the rest need replacing, and I want some larger items for the two-tiered fairy garden. I think I am going to buy decorative birdhouses and set up a village. It will be bright, charming and something I can see from my window and the patio when we get the chairs out.

Yesterday my husband got out of work at noon and he spent the afternoon hauling the bags and boxes, that I staged as items to go, out to the curb for annual junk day. Today the city has a garbage company going through the streets picking up our junk, following the rules of course. What I love is yesterday as he was putting things out, people came by and picked things up we didn’t want. It is a win-win. They took all the items that had any interest to them and saved half the items we had from going into the land fill. It also saved me a ton of work to try to make multiple trips to goodwill.

The best thing was last night was a worldwide Northern Lights event. I had some cloud cover but I could still see the color of the lights and glowing in the sky. I have been wanting to see the lights for a while and I feel this counts. The rare shows with clear skies where you can see all the colors, pillars and ribbons are rare and wonderful treat. I hope to see those again one day.
Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all! I am going to spend some time organizing items into the freed-up space in my house and garden when the rain stops. These seasonal activities have also freed up my brain and maybe I will be able to do some creative things, too.
