Saturday Morning Coffee

Today I wake up to a wildly dense fog, it slowly burning off as the sun rises and it is predicted to be a hot 80 to 85 degrees. I am loving the warmer weather. I want to prepare the garden for seeds to be planted this weekend. I have to clean up the grass encroaching on the border and dig up a few plants. I have a box of wildflower seeds and two packages of Sunflowers. It’s warm enough to plant out before Memorial Day this year. We have also gone about as long as we can for No Mow May. The lawn will get mowed and clover seeds planted to begin the slow conversion of the lawn to be more clover than grass.

I did make one purchase at the garden center and that is a hanging bag of petunias to replace the Christmas wreath. It’s pretty and I purchased my first fancy bird house to sit in the fairy garden. I want to put out my gazing ball today. The solar lights are out and I have some solar fairy lights to put out once I get their spaces cleared out.

I haven’t sewed much in weeks. I hope to start putting together a low volume quilt that I sewed the blocks for years ago and never finished. I asked for feedback and no one liked it. I decided that I do like it and I have a plan to finish it up. I have been hand sewing epp hexies and knitting in the evenings watching TV.

I have really been pushing myself with physical activity and some hard days of exercise. I hit a wall yesterday after work and needed to just rest. I watch a very long FQS live to get inspired, some Gardener’s World on the BBC and finished sewing a hexie flower. I was going to get a head start on my garden plans but I opted to start a load of laundry and then just sit down.

We need to rest. I am finding I need to really rest more. The weekends are time to balance a little bit of work, activity and projects with a lot of rest. I chose to stay home vs go to Indiana with my husband for a highland game because I needed the rest. Next weekend is a long weekend and highland game with something for my birthday. I am resting up for that and will start this weekend in preparation.

Tomorrow I am taking a Zen painting class. I have no idea what that will be or what the process is however, I am looking forward to participating in it!!

Have a lovely weekend,

Vicki

  1. it’s all about pacing myself for all the outdoor work that will probably take me much of the summer to get where I want it to be and then chill in the coolness of my air conditioning and the hot afternoons. Thanks for commenting! !

  2. Maybe summer will be a tad longer since it’s a bit early. Good idea to tackle the garden and leave sewing for those hot days better spent indoors. Hope you have a nice low key weekend filled with rest and rejuvenation!
