Saturday Morning Coffee

I have been living in deep winter since Thanksgiving. We have had over 50 inches of snow so far. I think there may be a little warm up tomorrow but I don’t think all of the snow will melt. I am more concerned about the amount of snow on the roof of the house and the amount of snow piled up in parking lots. Hopefully those drains are clear so if there is melting we won’t have water everywhere.

I have been going to work because we have a massive snowblower on a tractor for just this type of weather. Its been very cold about 20 degrees F and I have not ventured far from home. Today we are changing that. We are going to Grand Rapids and watching the play White Christmas. Then tomorrow morning we will take our son out to breakfast. I haven’t seen him since Oct. He and his sig other are doing two different plays and doing two shows a day on the weekends since last week! I couldn’t get tickets for his play but he is in a very small part and was asked later in the rehearsals when all tix were sold out. She is in White Christmas and playing one of the sisters. He landed another part in a drama murder mystery that will be showing in Feb. I cannot wait to see him in a dramatic role. He has done musicals so far.

I have been doing a deep dive on logos and decided it was time to change my podcast logo. I love it and hope you do to. I wanted something bold and colorful. Much like me and what we talk about on the podcast! I have new things to start in the new year! I have the catalog World of Lori Holt 2 because in it there is this pattern that I really want to do! You can get this at FQS or I purchased mine at my local quilt shop!

I went to the quilt guild’s Christmas party this week. What fun it was! The fat quarter challenge gifts were exchanged. You got a bag, and you filled it secretly with 8 fq. Then in Sept there was a bag selection and you had no idea whose bag of fq you got. The challenge was to make a project like a quilt, bag or anything you wanted out of all the fq being used however you did not have to use up all the fq fabric. The leftovers went back to the bag and at the party it was revealed what was in the bag and who the quilter was. It was such a fun party. We played other games, had a catered dinner and show and tell. I am just learning people’s name and getting to know everyone. I came home with lovely gifts.

You could also add fabric to the quilt you were making. This is the quilt that was made with the black and white fq I put in the bag!

Here is the Friendship star quilt I made from the bag of secret Fq. Phyllis loved her quilt!

I also went to the Lori Holt club and no one else came. This was at the local quilt shop however it is a time to sew and chat with people. So, the shop owner and I looked at my stitchy star blocks that were disastrous. She and I looked at the patterns and she showed me how to cut out the blocks, starch fabric first, precise cutting and sewing. I went home and put the lesson to use because I just needed a little boost that I could do it. Ta da!! all the tips helped and here is what I have so far!

They met my goal of lining up properly and points were preserved! I also learned I wasn’t squaring up the units properly with my square up ruler. All of that leads to problems.

Off to pack my overnight bag and get into the holiday spirit!
