Saturday Morning Coffee

The spring weather has given way to damp, cold, windy and rainy weather in the 40s and 50s. I have been inside more this week than I wanted to be and zero gardening done because of the weather. Next week looks much better and I think I will be back on track for getting the flower garden where I would like it to be for the season.

One thing I want to learn to do is enjoy going out in the garden and sit. It’s hard to do because all I see is work to be done vs sitting and enjoying it. I have a patio just need to put my chair on it, ok next week when it is warmer, and have a coffee. This little joke reel really hit home for me and my inability to enjoy my yard and garden!

To prepare for my knitting project this week, I have been practicing color work knitting. I then went down a rabbit hole of different styles of knitting and how to knit faster. I knit in English style. I have tried a couple of other ways but it was really hard. I then saw a video on Scottish style knitting or the fastest way to knit. I also realized I did lever knitting when I was first learning to knit because I had just long needles for my project! It is how the fastest knitters knit. I read that over 100 years ago knitters used a knitting belt to help them knit everywhere including walking at 3 stitches per SECOND. I just want to knit a little faster with less pain in my fingers! Here is a little video and it really works! I am checking into getting a belt and super long double points for a more comfortable knit.

Before I start my blanket, I want to do some research on the yarn I would like to use. I think I would like an affordable yarn preferably cotton or possibly just a nicer acrylic yarn.

I am really happy that I have made some progress on sewing. I did my QAL blocks. I went to Lori Holt Club at the local quilt shop, and overall this week I sewed more. I am going to help with a technique class for quilt guild next month on foundation paper piecing. I am thrilled to be feeling more inspired and able to make some movement on my sewing! Here is the QAL pic to show that we are getting close to the end! 4 more blocks then assembly will happen over the summer. I am loving the low pressure, slower paced QAL with Sherri and Chelsi. I am really being mindful when stitching and enjoying the project and fabrics I bought so much.

Next week will be a banner week for taking some online classes in Virtual retreats. I am so looking for inspiration and classes help me find it. I am taking the Making Zen classes and you can still sign up here if you are interested: https://www.makingzen.com/schedule

And then I found a needle felting virtual retreat/classes and I signed up for that too because the theme is mushrooms!! Here is the link if you are interested: https://feltedfungiweek.com/

I am also waiting for a collage class at a nearby studio. So much fun will be happening to spark some creativity after the long and dreadful winter!

I am hoping you are finding inspiration in the world around you or maybe some classes!
