It has been snowing overnight and predicted to continue all weekend. I have plans work on getting Christmas decorations out and gifts made or bought. I don’t think we will be going anywhere because of the snow except to the grocery and pharmacy.
The week was a nice slow work week to get back into after nearly a week off from being sick. I was able to catch up and go to bed early and rest. I am feeling back to my old self but it took the full two weeks!
I sewed the Fantabulous Scrappy star #8 and I had some trouble as my brain was not 100% you can read about my design change here: https://mycreativecorner3.com/2025/12/11/fantabulous-scrappy-stars-block-8/
My husband’s retirement and Christmas gift is here and today we are setting up the laser machine. I hope we can get it working! I don’t know about him but I am very excited about it. More to come on that
I had ordered a couch and it was delivered from a local furniture store when I was getting better. However, it wasn’t what we thought we ordered. We refused delivery and sent it back. I went back to the store with my husband and we ordered two recliners, for less money and I think I will like it better. Delivery is scheduled to Tuesday.
It is so meaningful to me that I have new upholstered living room furniture. The chairs and couch we have are all at least 25 years old and the couch is 35. They were second hand from family. I have used them and loved them but I need something of my own. I want to make my home my own. We are finally doing that.
I thought the same about Christmas a few years ago, I wanted it to be my own. So I bought new ornaments and a small tree. I started to curate a look of my favorite things and I have allowed myself one new thing for the last couple of years. The old nostalgic things are in the basement and need to be sorted this winter. I will keep some things and store others. I couldn’t bring myself to open all the old nostalgic things a few years ago to decorate. So I didn’t, I started fresh and new.
I also started counting down to the return of the light with Winter Solstice! I feel like December is the time to dig deep and clean out the old, prep for the new. I have been decluttering and resetting rooms. It is time to think about goals for next year and this year is winding down and a new one will begin soon. I am hibernating at home and getting things in order in both my closets and trying to get things in order for my life, body and mind.
I made a solstice countdown and started filling it in writing what I want to shine the light on for things I did and learned this year that were transformative. I looked up a blog that has some great journaling prompts and purchased an Etsy printable on Solstice as well as Yule trying to connect with how people have been celebrating this festive season for millenia.
Here is my printable if you want to use it as a count down to Solstice, Christmas or even the new year! You can write whatever you want to shine the light on in the stones as they spiral to the return of the sun!

My Christmas present came early also and since it is a birdfeeder with a camera, we got the pole in the ground before it was completely frozen. The birds are stopping in too!
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy your coffee,
Vicki
