Saturday Morning Coffee

It is below zero F here and we have been in a wintery deep freeze all week. It has also been dumpting snow on us daily. It’s not going to get much warmer for a while, so this is the time where you just embrace it. When I go outside, I have all the gear on. Hat, gloves, scarf, jacket and maybe a sweater under the jacket. Inside, I have a quilt close by and we have a electric fireplace in the living room. It is essentially a cute looking space heater that looks like a little wood stove.

We have space heaters going near the plants, in the basement to prevent the pipes from freezing and on the entryway to keep ice from forming in the mud room. It’s a hunker down type of weekend where I do not plan to go out much. Grocery shopping and that’s about it. Stores usually are cold because they can’t heat those large buildings well.

I have a knit hat nearly finished. I have had to rip out the crown shaping three times because I don’t have the right double points to keep my decrease stitches from having huge gaps. So, I found very small circulars that I knit sleeve cuffs on and so far, they are what I needed to keep the decreased from having gaping holes in the hat. A problem of making do with what I have that ends up making more work.

I haven’t crocheted this week and no art journaling. But maybe this weekend.

I sewed the quilt along block and it is very cute see previous blog post. I think I will try to sew some sashing this weekend.

I plan to watch the last two football playoff games. I have more reorganizing and decluttering to do in my sewing space but I am really happy with the progress that I am making. My husband is getting his crafty space set up also and he is making some gorgeous things! I thought I would share a few things!

I love this green man on wood to hang as wall art.

A yarn bowl! It works perfectly also when you run the yarn through the side of the bowl minimizing tangles and to come easily off the cake!

We keep busy even in the hibernation season. Keeping myself busy is the key to getting through winter and these very cold days. I have candles that help keep the house cozy and full of soft light. I am really embracing doing things that take time, are offline and engage my hands and brain. Writing is one thing. I like typing on a computer but pen to paper is more therapeutic and feels more meaningful to write. I even have a pen pal that I wrote a letter to for my analog life project.

I am trying to watch form videos and shows that take time to watch the story unfold. I have tried to listen to an audio book but I haven’t found one that holds my interest. I have a couple of games I am playing on my phone which are fun and keeps me from doomscrolling on the news and social media. I am reading more blogs and substack posts instead.

In the deepest part of winter, during the coldest days yet and maybe on record, I know the sun is returning. The days may be grey and full of snow but the amount of sun is getting longer.

And that warms my heart, were slowly making it through to the other side
