Saturday Morning Coffee

Happy Valentine’s day to all. I think today is a great day to do something for yourself as well as someone you love. I am planning on a nice weekend away. We are leaving later today to see a play, tomorrow is a hockey game and then home.

I have been watching the Olympics after work each night in Primetime. It has been so fun and I love how we hear some touching stories. It is definitely a year of “the thrill of victory and agony of defeat” as they used to say on the Wide World of Sports during my childhood.

I have enjoyed time to sit and knit while watching the games. I enjoy watching all the fun knits the athletes wear as well as finding out how many knit to cope with stress! I got my red hat done and I am working on another knit project. I hope it will be a hood because I am not following a pattern lol.

Analog life update: I have been improving on not reaching for my phone. I have been more intentional about its use. I have been spending more time chatting with people around me, reading articles and knitting to keep my hands busy. I have also spent time sewing and hand sewing bindings. I have been doing more writing and journaling. Overall, not as obsessed by my phone. I even have left it in other rooms as I go do dishes or cook dinner. I like how it isn’t drawing me in with it is constant checking and then going down rabbit holes. I have been following the Analog life project here: https://littletruthsstudio.com/pages/the-analog-life-project.

I can see where it is going to take me months to be living a more analog intentional life in an effort to regain my attention and focus, exercise, as well as slowing down and enjoying each moment as it unfolds. I think that not being on my phone as much has been very helpful in my stress levels. I am trying to stop being constantly multi tasking with the phone fracturing my focus. I started to read an article about a digital detox and the first sentence caused me so much anxiety, it said shut off the internet on your phone for two weeks. I immediately said out loud, “TWO WEEKS! NO WAY!” And in that moment, I was like, yeah, I absolutely could not do it. So, I decided I will try using a laptop more with no apps downloaded on it and I may have to put timers on apps that live on my phone.

I really would like to bring blogging back instead of social media. I think others are, too, since I am seeing more people have blogs and Substack’s. When you follow the blog, I am finding you can get each post sent to you in email like a newsletter. It gives me more power to choose if I want to read it or pass that day. I am liking that a lot!

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Vicki
