This post is third in a series to discuss my wonderful experience of testing blocks for the most recent release of Quiltmaker Magazine 100 Blocks vol. 8. I had a time of growth in my quilting after all these years! I learned much, expanded my skills and tried new techniques. I also will share some insights that I had while making these blocks.
This block is a wonderful version of the current and hot chevron pattern. I used my favorite paisley fabrics and in the magazine a novelty child fabric is used. That’s the beauty of this versatile block, it can take on any fabric and still look wonderful. I chose the light dark interplay to give it dimension but that isn’t necessary for today’s mod look just use a solid or a bold print.
I learned that the plaid fabric in the border just doesn’t quite hit the mark. Next time, I would choose a non directional fabric or a solid for this block. That’s why everyone should make test blocks, right? Sometimes auditioned fabrics don’t always show up in light the way they do in your mind’s eye.
