Week 5 of Piece and Quilt blog hop- Finale!

2017-09-14 09.58.17

Welcome to the fifth and final week of the blog hop!   I am joining Kristin and Hollyanne for a 5 week journey in exploring the book by Christa Watson Piece and Quilt with Precuts . Be sure to get your copy here  or Amazon carries the book as well. I have been journaling about making my version of Gridwork from the book. The quilt is on a journey, too, from Northern Michigan to a booth at the International Quilt Market and Show in Huston, in November!  I finished by the end of the hop! I am making my quilt from Christa’s fabric that will be available in November. It is called Modern Marks by Benartex. Click on the link to see all of the collection. It is so gorgeous! Ask for it at your local quilt shop.  Are you interested in the Giveaway? Click here

Here are the phots for the final week of the blog hop!

The first picture is an initial layout of my sampler quilt of all of the blocks in the book! I am going to float all the blocks in a white background. I will make them all the same sized by adjusting the sashing for the blocks and make them all the same size in a row to look like the blocks on the design wall. I like the arrows block at the top!

I put all of the blocks of the variation together on the design wall, second picture in the link. I really like how they look. I am not sure if I want to make the quilt bigger or not. I am gonna think about it for a couple of weeks.

I doodled a few ideas for free motion quilting for my quilt on post it notes during my down time. I had a couple of ideas and the post it on the left was ok but I decided nope! What I really liked was the tiny switchbacks and curls seen on the step out pen drawing. I have made the stitche before and cannot remember where I origianlly saw this idea. This free motion quilting stitch is done per block and in columns, see the pen step out drawing. I also chose to do a sharp stipple in the little squares of each blocks. I wanted texture, texture, texture!

The end of the blog hop is here already. I am so excited to send this quilt off to Christa and it will be in the Benartex booth with the Modern Marks line! If you go to Quilt Market in Huston take a picture and let me know!

I had so much fun  sharing my journey in making Gridwork. I really enjoyed thinking and sharing my design process in making a variation as well as the memory sampler with each test block. I want to thank Christa Watson,  Benartex and Hobbs batting for making this hop possible. I want to give a special thanks to two of my BQF’s Hollyanne and Kristin for all of your encouragement and support in my quilting journey without you this would be impossible.

Please sign up for my newsletter and I will keep you updated on what’s happening, events and freebies! Please checkout the tutorials and free patterns at the links above.

Thanks for joining me!

Quilt on,

Vicki

Edit: Sun came out and I took a glamor shot!
