I am so thrilled to be talking about free motion quilting with you! I long arm and I do custom quilting for other people but what most customers want is a meander. Meanders let the piecing be the star, its more economical, and it practical for everyday use on a quilt . Plus, you can’t beat the texture of a meander!

Paisley in the border!

This week are two stitches that can be a little tricky for me, paisley and all over leaf meanders. I love to make them but sometimes I feel they can look a little out of control and a bit all over the place. With practice you can get the important things down like the spacing of the echoes is important to keep it even, changing directions smoothly , have some variation in sizes of the leaf and the paisley. The different sizes can make it more interesting. The most important thing just keep quilting and practicing. When you are done, the overall effect is fantastic!

Angela gives you all the details about making these shapes in her book. I have to say I drew them a million times before I started to quilting and that helped a lot. So give these meanders a try, they are really fun to make!

Quilt on!
