August is here. With the hot days, I am finding a fresh crop of some type of bug in the house. We had to pull some ivy that is around the crawl space and basement of the house that had grew through a basement window. That means the window needs to be sealed again. We thought we may have seen a mouse. There is a constant battle waging to keep nature from taking over this 100 year old house!
I have been making hexies and sewing hexie flowers to participate in the 100 hexies 100 day on Instagram. Did I tell you there are prizes involved? I am so glad I joined in. I was getting bored with the sewing I was doing and didn’t want to start a new quilt. I finished piecing my granny square and the plan is to soon add the outer border. 1 year to make that quilt. When I finish a quilt, I usually need some time to recuperate from spending all my time and energy into that quilt. I do the same long arming too. My brain need time to change gears to a new project. I decided that hexies were the perfect thing to do right now. I haven’t worked on them in a year. I forgot I had 7 charm packs that I bought right before I got Covid/Long Covid with the intention of making a hexie quilt that was inspired by Kate of the Last Homely House YouTube channel. Now I am not sure my quilt will be a sea of hexies like her’s is, but one never knows these things because that’s not how inspiration works for me! I have some Liberty of London as she talks about in her quilts and then I bought Riley Blake’s Liberty fabrics to go with it. Here is Kate’s video about what happened to her quilt!

Now the granny square just needs a border! Pattern by Lori Holt made from my stash!
I have had a quiet week at work which is a lovely change. I have been really feeling pretty under the weather the past few days with breathing problems due to the air quality being poor and I am watching for a summer cold to settle in. Always, after I have a doctors appointment, I say I have been doing really well and the program we are doing is working well. Then I get something going like a cold or inflammation. I am staying home and not attending Highland Games with my husband for this as well as a few other reasons namely the weather and such. So last night and today I have to myself. I am lounging around in my night clothes. Lingering over coffee and then going to work on some crafts like paint some collage papers and then organize my crafty space. It won’t be finished but I want to spend time tidying up and getting inspired by what I already have. Then I can play with a new item I recently purchased, a laminator! I have several ideas to try but first learn the machine and test it out using what I have then plan to buy more laminating sheets and go a little wild! Those results will be on the Our Creative Souls blog tomorrow.
I have to say the coffee is always amazing from a freshly opened can, today is no exception. I am going to finish up my coffee and slowly go through the items I wanted to do today!
Have an amazing summer’s day,
Vicki
