Saturday Morning Coffee

It’s a rare opportunity to have 2 weeks of pure rest, very little responsibilities or commitments. That is exactly what I have been doing. I believe that when you have Covid that doing very little, but rest is an important part of healing and recovery. I didn’t the first time and I paid for it. I am used to pushing through sickness and getting it all done however, I couldn’t so … I didn’t.

It was a glorious week of getting better and recovery. I stayed in my house for 10 days only going outside for the mail. The last few days I felt like I needed to walk to I walked up and down my driveway, got the mail and checked out the garden. That was enough to make me need rest.

I didn’t do any decluttering and only a little surface cleaning. I watched loads of YouTube, took showers and got dressed. While watching the shows I would cross stitch, do a few hand sewn hexies and when I was doing really well, I sewed easy strips around my Sew Scrappy spool blocks to make them into spools. I did sew 2 Seasonal stars when I didn’t have a headache and had clear thinking.

I found out several things that I didn’t know or had forgotten. Did you know Pat Sloan is doing daily videos during the week? She has some great things going and I enjoyed her videos to start my days. I also found Erica Arndt’s channel and she does it all, quilt, sew, cross stitch, crochet and she sells patterns etc. I also found that it is fun to put on a video that had music from Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, and it has a slow video behind it. Makes you feel like you are in an adventure or living in Hogwarts while you do things. A quest of sorts.

Yesterday was my big test, I drove my car to the bank drive through. Then I went to Wal Mart because I needed some embroidery floss for my cross stitch, and I saw a really cute crochet pumpkin tutorial on Erica’s channel. I needed to see if I could tolerate walking, get some steps in and look for cheap yarn. I was on day 11 and not required to mask anymore. It was a complete success. I did need to rest after my big adventure, but I crocheted a pumpkin.

During all of this I had to wrestle with more of the emotional issues that Covid brings for this second week. I was slowly getting better but the trauma of last year came back. I was worried I wasn’t going to get well because recovery was so slow. I was discouraged that I couldn’t do what I normally do and I couldn’t do much. It was only for a few days but you start to think that it’s forever. And then I turned the corner and today I am making my shopping list to go grocery shopping. I am hungry for some good food. Easy meals, delivered pizza and frozen meals get you by but after a while you get really tired of them.

I do have 3 days’ vacation next week that was planned. I am not going to the quilt show. I haven’t done anything that was “planned” for the last several weekends and I am quite ok with that. I see a football game this fall and such but it’s not top on my list today to have every weekend filled with activities.

It’s a chilly 45 this morning, but the sun is out and that’s great medicine! I am looking forward to football on Tv. I was bored enough that I drafted a Fantasy Football team with a league of random people on NFL.com. I have lots of craft supplies and I am ready for the weekend.

  1. I love the idea of cooler weather! It’s a little ways off for us but the days are getting shorter and the leaves are falling from some trees. I hope you are feeling better today! I hate to think what your winter will be like if your immune system is so vulnerable. Maybe time for early retirement and restrict the germs coming into your life!
I love Pat Sloan! I have to watch at least a few times a week to learn something and honestly, who doesn’t love her giggles. So much to watch on YouTube but I’m also listening to more audiobooks. I was making too many mistakes on my stitching not paying attention!!😂.

  2. I’m glad you’re on the mend. Hope the third time’s the charm (ie the last time you get Covid!)

I really like the spool blocks with the lighter background. What a difference!
