Wildcard Wednesday

I thought it would be fun to have Wednesday be a day to talk about anything. Maybe a topic on my mind or something a little different from the usual content here.

I wanted to talk about something boring… microfiber cleaning cloths and cleaning. I have have purchased several over the years and I didn’t understand why they were always one of the number one recommended things to use as an indispensable item to have for cleaning your home.

I made the mistake years ago to buy inexpensive ones and they weren’t any better then using Rags or paper towels honestly. Several years ago I bought one from Grove and it is a beautiful cloth. Lush fiber content and it works well. But I didn’t see why anyone would spend 20 dollars or more on a cleaning cloth.

The next ones I bought were from Norwex and they are lovely. I don’t believe the silver infused disinfectant is helpful but I tried them. They were OK, too.

That was over 5 years ago. Since then I have had all of my kitchen appliances die and need to be replaced. We had our bathroom gutted and rebuilt with modern finishes. I have newer end tables, dressers and light fixtures. Walls have also been painted.

I attended a free summit on housekeeping and organization. Microfiber cloths were brought up again. I thought, do I still have them because I haven’t used them in a long time. I realized that there are 2 types of cloths the deep nap cleaning ones and fine nap finishing cloths. I have both! The Blog Empty Nest Blessed Suzy was really helpful !

Wow, using them to clean fresh, newer surfaces that aren’t old and worn out makes a difference. You can’t make a tub shine that has no finish. You can’t make a stove sparkle that’s worn out. Old and worn items after cleaning still look old and worn. They may be clean but won’t look shiny and streak free.

I now have clean items that sparkle and shine using the cloths. They are worth the investment and make surfaces clean and streak free using the cleaner appropriate for that surface! They also make my surfaces cleaner faster, with less effort and are worth the investment. Plus they are washable and you are able to use them over and over for years! Big return on investment is important to me.

I am really happy I can have a cleaner house and spend less time on the chores so I can spend more time on making and quilting!

  1. I have several microfiber clothes but have long suspected that quality matters! I do like using them though. Probably time to get a few new ones!
