Saturday Morning Coffee

Thanksgiving is upon us! I am having my family gathering tomorrow at my Brother’s house. I am making some gluten free dishes to take for my son, who has Celiac’s, so he can join us in the meal. My husband and I have our meal planned for Thursday of a small traditional Thanksgiving dinner at home. I have a lot of help cooking the meal from my husband so I don’t have any pressure for any of this which is great. I am not into cooking and I am not into being stressed out over the holiday because life is stressful enough! I am not about adding any more stress to my holiday. We are keeping it simple yet lovely.

I am really surprised that Thanksgiving is here already. It feels so early! The weather has been so warm that I have mentally been functioning as if it is way back into early October! However, the snow is going to come just in time for the Holiday, so no worries about that.

My husband is going to be out in the woods deer hunting much of the week. I have some time to really dig in to making things, planning for the holidays and trying to rest up. Physical therapy has been very exhausting this past 2 weeks. I have plans to begin!!

First thing is to get an idea and supplies for the door decorating contest at work. The contest begins December 4th. The judging is later in the month. I have seen a few people’s plans and progress photos of things they are making at home for the contest. Last year was the first year and I didn’t have any ideas, so I hung a quilt on the door as I do. However, I want to bring my A game this year and do something more special. My next-door neighbor won the contest and has set the bar high!

Next, I told my husband we need a new tabletop Christmas tree. I have plans to make or buy new ornaments for a theme. I would like to have more greens, gold sparkly decorations and little gold twinkle lights. We will see what I can find. Many places may be sold out of Christmas decorations already! He agrees that he likes it better with a tabletop tree and less work setting it all up.

Lastly, I have some ideas for gift baskets for family and friends. I need to scope out what is available to fulfill my vision. I think I want to make more practical gifts in the baskets yet themed also like baking, breakfast, beauty, Sunday brunch, coffee bar etc. I am way in the early planning stages so we will see if I can pull it off.

Today’s making plans is to assemble sew scrappy spools, finish the Christmas quilt on the long arm and to paint something with my watercolors. I am also going to peruse a few stores for ideas for the holiday ideas and watch a little football.

I want to wish everyone a lovely weekend and for those who are celebrating Thanksgiving this week , I hope yours is all about love, gratitude and joy with a lovely pie as dessert!

  1. Sounds like a very busy weekend and busy week! You could just add a really pretty garland with twinkle lights, bows and snowflakes around the quit you were thinking of. Who else would have a quilt?? Sounds like a winner to me! And wow, what great parents making GF food for your son. I’m sure he will appreciate it and it will help make the holiday special that he doesn’t have to bypass all the good looking regular food. Enjoy!

  2. For your door, maybe you could make a bunch of snowflakes with your cricut so it’s snowing on something at the bottom of the door (a tree or a gnome or a snowman)
