Saturday Morning Coffee

Last week, right before Thanksgiving, when the stores were packed, I ran out of my beloved Tim Horton’s coffee. Neither my husband nor I could bear the thought of going into a big box store to buy more. So, my loving husband had to go to Aldi for a few forgotten items for our feast and I asked for some Med Roast coffee there. I have been drinking it and it isn’t a horrible coffee! I may have some damage to my taste buds from Covid but for the price, I am enjoying a nice cup of coffee in the morning.

However, right next to the quilt shop in my neighborhood, a new local coffee shop and bakery has opened. I stopped in to see what was at the quilt shop and they has an old longarming quilt sample of mine to pick up. I noticed the lovely little coffee shop as I walked into the quilt shop.

I am sure a cup of coffee is as much as my entire can of Aldi coffee. But it looks good and I really want to try it. Their website says that they make scones, muffins and bread. I think I need to get a loaf of sourdough! I am not a good sourdough maker myself so it would be worth it!

As I am preparing to decorate my home for Christmas, I have been doing a daily journaling practice alongside the daily podcast for my Silk and Sonder journal. I have been thinking about things that are in my life and my thoughts that need to be pondered during the dark days of December. When the winter Solstice comes, we start to get more daylight. During the darkest days, I love the practice of internal introspection. I am looking at what I have been filling my life with, look at what needs to be changed in the next year with the returning of the light and what is no longer serving me then let it go. It is a really good practice to do regularly throughout the year, but I like to really dig into it in December and make way for the New Year and New healthier activities, mental health practices and lifestyle.

I also spend the month preparing for Christmas. I have a theme I want to try to do for my decorations like wreath I made a couple of weeks ago. Greens, sparkle, golden light! I have a table top tree but if I find a new one I may pick it up. I have loads of decorations and I have pulled a few out already. I want to slowly decorate and savor the practice of celebrating the holidays. I may try a few Christmas crafts and we will see what happens.

I need to get my office door decoration project started this weekend. I am making a gingerbread themed door. I have brown paper bags, a chalk paint pen and a vision of what I want to do. Let’s see if I can execute it!!

Here is an example of my inspiration:

I am signed up to continue physical therapy for another month. It has been helping me even though I am not thrilled to be so sore and tired. But that is how to get better!

I am happy to announce that I have only the borders to add to my Sew Scrappy spools quilt top! This is a quick snap of it, bear in mind it needs pressing and all before I add the borders.

My temperature cross stitch is going to finish on time as I stitch daily through this last month!

I am going to finish this year out strong! I have a few loose ideas for next year projects and practices that I am formulating this month as I journal to see what I discover I want to shine the light on, things I need to clear out to make room for more healthy, happy practices in days to come.

Have a great weekend!

Vicki

  1. The new coffee shop and bakery should definitely be on your list. Sounds delightful! The spool quilt is wonderful! I am having fun making lists of all the projects I want to do next year. Of course, the list is incredibly long but I write them all down and compare from years past to see the ones that keep showing up. Those gingerbread cottages are super cute and just your style! Can’t wait to see what you do!
