Saturday Morning Coffee

I have my coffee in the press waiting for it to be just right. I recently bought a can of Tim Horton’s coffee at Costco. I feel like I am really being indulgent in drinking it because it wasn’t the cheapest brand there. It’s my favorite. And I thought while at Costco there is no saving a few dollars at the check out!

I really want to get a mountain of work done this weekend. I really want to quilt and sew a mountain of things this weekend. How can the two goals happen? I think a little at a time. It will all add up in several small sittings of sewing. A few minutes off and on all weekend of cleaning, tidying and decluttering. I am beginning to do the “spring” cleaning. I looked at my kitchen floors and they need the full mop. I honestly can’t remember when I did that last it has been so long.

My husband is going out this afternoon to walk about the woods with his Uncle. I am going to use that time to really dig into some chores and decluttering. I hate the mess it makes before it gets better, so I am going to try to minimize pulling too much out of the closets at once and deal with it as I go. I love the blog/podcast A Slob Comes Clean. She has the no mess decluttering ideas that I like. Here is a link to her blog: https://www.aslobcomesclean.com/decluttering-basics/

I am ready to think about projects other than the health focus that I have had for the last month. I have been really vigilant about my food intake, the number of carbs I am eating, checking my sugar more often and logging my food with a few chats with a dietician. It is helping but all of that focus on food is making me a little nuts. I feel like I got a jump start on what I need to do. Now I need to do that and then live my life. What we’re working on is incrementally making changes. However, what I am really finding is that all the little changes add up quickly and it was taking up a ton of brain space and worry about it. Now that I have a month of it under my belt, I am trying to make these habits second nature and just living life with it vs it being my primary brain focus. I am quite sick of thinking about it honestly.

I hope to take a walk this afternoon. It is supposed to be 50! The snow has melted for the most part and I need to get some fresh air. Maybe the sun will be out. It will be the perfect break from all the chores I plan to tackle. And it is always good to get up from the crafting and walk. No plants are growing outside yet but I am going to look for signs of spring.

I have been trying to have a social media “diet” if you will. I have failed at that miserably this week. I feel better when I limit the amount of time I am just scrolling through social media and not being present or productive in life. I get some good ideas and love following people online but it can get to be a really bad and unhealthy habit. I could be doing more things like exercise, folding laundry or chatting with people vs having my life be looking at craft feeds and reading my guilty pleasure AITA on TIKTOk accounts through quick scrolling social media apps. Time to limit that garbage too.

Signs of spring mean time to get out and get moving! Get cleaning and get making some fun stuff! Get in the gym and see if some good veggies are at the store. In with the good and stop consuming the garbage of all kinds.

In short it is time to shake off the remnants of winter!

  1. Hi Barb!! I am moving slowly but things are being staged to go with the massive city wide spring clean up in May as well as boxes to go to Goodwill. I have items to return to adult children ready to go and I think I will really feel “lighter ” in my mind and closets by June.

I am making a huge point in all of this to do some exercise and get out of my house and office. Seems like that is more of a challenge these days to find a place to go and people to meet but it’s not impossible.

The sun is out and a walk is on my list of things to do!

  2. Good coffee really does make a difference! I actually cut my coffee intake down to 1 cup in the morning because I savor and enjoy it so much.
Sounds like you are pretty ambitious this weekend! I love Dana’s YouTube videos and often play them in the background to help me declutter or clean. I do like her idea to deal with things as you go so it doesn’t overwhelm you. That is great to hear you are keeping at it! I just know how much better you will feel about it! Just like we “grew” our homes for our early family life, this is our time to simplify and prepare for the next phase. Well, we have another rainy day here so I am using it to work indoors since Spring means being outside more and less time inside. Mixing it up with sewing and cross stitch, and a big pot of soup on the stove will make for a nice day. Have a great weekend!
