This week has been a wonderful week of work and learning. I took a long weekend and went on a little road trip with my husband. We went to a fundraiser Highland games west of Chicago and took the scenic route through the UP and through Wisconsin. Not a lot of fall foliage yet but it was a wonderful t and on trip and on the way home we stopped at Primitive Gatherings and retreat center owned by Lisa Bongene.
I loved the shop it is huge, a quilt show in itself and has a cross stitch shop in it, as well as all things wool primitives and her patterns. I throughly enjoyed the stop even though I am not a primitive person. These patterns would and do look amazing in a more modern colorway. I bought a few items.

Then I started my beginning pottery class and that meets for the next 6 Saturdays with the teacher wanting you to come back to work on your project in between the classes. Not sure how many of those I can make because of my job and the distance to the studio but I hope to do several of these trips there because they are included with the 25 pounds of clay and all access to her studio. I know nothing about pottery and first day was hand building.

Then yesterday was the Tamarack quilt jacket class. You needed to quilt your pieces or have a quilt to cut prior to class and we learned all about patterns as well as assembly in class. I didn’t do anything fancy with mine like a collar, welt or patch pockets or a hood. I am so proud of the jacket I made. I have another jacket started from last year and I believe I can finish it now. There are a lot of details I like about this pattern and all the edges are bound or serged. I don’t own a serger but if you do then this would be a great project to use it on for the sleeves and armholes.

In addition it is week three of the Fantabulous scrappy stars! Here is my block and the link to the post with all the details: https://mycreativecorner3.com/2025/09/24/fantabulous-scrappy-stars-block-3/
I am really feeling great, I am a little tired from the classes today. My back is a little sore from sitting, standing and lifting a sewing machine, remind myself to get a rolling case for it, and over all I feel really accomplished. It is a little annoying that all the classes are at once but it is a season of creativity and learning with the new school year. Next week I am doing open studio time at the fused glass studio and making more charms because that was a blast when I took the class last year!
