I decided this week that I need to start to address things that I haven’t been able to over the past year since being diagnosed with long covid. I still have to pace myself a ton and not over do things or the next 3 days are shot with chronic fatigue. That gets annoying because it feels like projects take a very long time to do and they really do compared to years past. However, there are a few things starting to bug me around here and I have spent a week planning a way to get these little annoying things done. Plus, I was home a little more this week with an infection so I had time to look around and really see what is going on in my house.
Lest I sound like my house is an episode of hoarders, I want you to know that it isn’t, but it isn’t where I like things to be. I am implementing my 10 min strategy a day in addressing things. I feel like I need to start to get rid of things we don’t use anymore and start making a weekly trip to donate things to the Salvation Army just down the road from my house. On the surface things look ok but I want to get things really clean, organized and thinned down. And like all projects getting started is the hardest part.
Step 1 : I called the Salvation Army to inquire about how to donate and what they take
Step 2: Found a few boxes to rotate through this project
Step 3: Begin
This is an As You Go project. That means as I get a box filled, I put it in the car and when I have a few boxes to take, I run it over to the donation Center. I am not getting too far ahead of myself and making the house messier as well as dusty! I started in the dining room and took several days of just a few minutes of sorting, tidying and identifying things that are not needed that were pitched or in a to go box.
Overall, I took a really good look at things and realized it isn’t as bad as my mind made it out to be. I looked in closets for a couple of items my daughter inquired about, her wedding dress which I have to crawl under the long arm and check in that closet today, and that was what started this whole thing. Once I got over being overwhelmed with the notion and emotion I have to do this, I needed time to process that emotion of it all and made a 4-year plan, that’s when I hope to retire and sell this house. Even if retirement and moving doesn’t work out that way the house will be a better place to live. I needed to start to think about making a new theme since my Summer theme or 100 day project is coming to and end soon and I am really incorporating that into my daily life at this point.
To balance the not so fun project planned, I have had such a good time making the hexagon epp flowers. I bought lovely Scottish inspired fabric and started making larger hexies specifically for that fabric. It’s perfect for the 100 day 100 hexie challenge that I am doing. I am going to put the final border on the Granny Square quilt today and work on sewing the 4 blocks in the Scrappy Spools quilt along. I mean all work and no play makes me a really grumpy person.
I also decided to make the Seasonal Stitchy Stars quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop. I made the cross stitch version in 2 seasonal color ways and the quilted Table runner would look great in the dining room or along the back of my couch! Here is the link to the details:
Right now, I need a quilt along to keep me sewing. I am having some brain fog still and trying to plan my own quilt goals is hard. I want to start a fall quilt from my scrappiness is happiness book but that will be next month’s decision!
I plan to record a podcast today and possibly a YouTube video so watch for those to post!
Enjoy your weekend!

I too am getting that urge to organize and go through more things. I did quite a bit when I moved but now that I am settled in, I am ready to let go of a little more. I will never be a minimalist but I found a YouTube show I like (Simple Happy Zen) and am adapting the principles. Especially about accumulating and the mental strategies to live more mindfully. It really helps balance out the explosion of FlossTubes that have me drooling over beautiful charts. I have to remember I only have so much time, money and room! Your 4 yr project sounds great and will help you do the same. That time will go by very fast!
I just finished a baby quilt and it inspired me to get out another quilt I had cut before my move so that is up on the design wall today and feels good! But I am very swayed by the Quilty Stars SAL!

I just fell in love with the table runner and I may start with one vs doing all 4 colorways.
I am doing a daily 15 min declutter and so far I am amazed at what I can do in that short period of time. The trick is to get the boxes to donate out to the car or they hang around my house! I would love to see your baby quilts!
