When it comes to fairy gardens, or any garden for that matter, imagination is the key to it’s success. For me, fairy gardens let my inner child come out. You can use any type of medium out there, the possibilities are endless. You can make them any style and any size. If you take all of your art classes from your school days, even elementary school, and combine them with your imagination…. you can create your own fairy garden with things you already have laying around the house! The two things I see a lot of in fairy gardens are mushrooms and ladybugs! Buying store bought accessories can be very expensive. I can’t see spending hard earned dollars on something you can make in seconds for pennies and it is a great way to stretch those creative muscles as well as those creative dollars. This is a simple and fun way to make them that your children can help you with, too!
This week will be a tutorial on making small mushrooms for your fairy garden!
Things you will need:
1. HOT GLUE GUN
2. GLUE STICKS
3. NAIL WITH FLAT HEAD
4. PAINT
5. PAINT BRUSH
6. SOME FORM OF CLEAR COATING
optional but helpful is floral foam to dry and paint your mushrooms on
STEPS
1. Once you have your hot glue gun loaded and heated, all you have to do is put a bubble of glue on the head of the nail.
You can differ the sizes and shapes with the glue gun, see above. If you add a bit more glue and have it melt over the edges it creates more of the mushroom form.
2. Let dry for 5 to 10 minutes
3. Paint base coat
When painting the base coat making sure the paint is thick enough to adhere to the glue. Also remembering to paint the under side.
4. add clear coat. Do not put a lot of pressure ,,,,if you do it will remove the base coat. Let this dry.
5. Add another coat of base color. You may have to add more than one coat to get the color coverage you want.
6. Details of Mushroom.
Add simple dots of your choice of colors. No specific pattern is best
Paint the nail for your base of mushroom.
Simple as that!
Create on!
